Recreation Attendant: (Entry-level) Provide customer service to patrons, oversight of facility and grounds (including park and parking lot), clerical and office functions (including data entry using RecWare system, receipt of monies etc.), light cleaning as needed, organization of office space, knowledge of (able to provide) information regarding facility/park rental policies and procedures, work facility rentals.
Recreation Aide: (Entry-level) Provide support to Recreation Leaders in conducting programs and activities, assist with supervision of youth, help mediate conflict resolution when needed, display role model behavior to youth. Responsible for helping maintain control, safety and organization of recreation facility. May preform clerical and office functions (including data entry using Recware system) and organization of office space. Additional duties may vary by unit (see below).
ADA Inclusion Recreation Aide: Work with children with special needs (between ages 0 - 5), families and caregivers in engaging activities, help with community outreach for programming, attend field trips and provide additional support to Recreation Leaders.
Discovery Center Recreation Aide: Assist senior staff at the site, help supervise participants and provide one on one attention during hands on science and art activities and projects, prep materials for projects, and help clean and organize work areas. Work within the model of student-centered, inquiry-based education.
Recreation Leader I: In addition to Rec Aide duties, primarily responsible from providing customer service (parent and patron interface), working collaboratively with colleagues, displaying role model proper behavior, light cleaning as needed, maintenance of supplies/equipment, snack prep, coaching sports teams, and training junior counselors. Must demonstrate qualities of organization, ability to lead others, display strong positive role model behavior to youth and other staff, and ability to adapt to new and varied programming, activities and processes. Additional duties may vary by unit (see below).
ADA Inclusion Recreation Leader: Experience working with special needs populations. Primarily responsible for planning and implementing age-appropriate activities. Other duties include attending field trips, acting as summer day camp counselor, coaching sports teams.
Discovery Center Recreation Leader: Assist senior staff at the site, help supervise participants and provide one on one attention during hands on science and art activities and projects, prep materials for projects, and help clean and organize work areas. Work within the model of student-centered, inquiry-based education.
Recreation Leader II: In addition to Recreation Leader I responsibilities, Recreation Leader II also supervises staff, may program stand-alone and off-site programs. Any combination of education and experience that is equivalent to the following minimum qualifications is acceptable: Education - completion of two (2) years of major college coursework leading to a degree in recreation, physical education, kinesiology, dance, art or a closely related field; Experience - two (2) years of experience participating in a wide variety of recreation activities in sports, arts and crafts and/or other organized activities or one (1) year as a Recreation Leader I with the City of Oakland.
Recreation Specialist: Planning and implementing specialized programming (including but not limited to dance, karate, cooking, fitness training, etc.) to meet the needs and interests of Oakland's diverse community. Specialists may provide programming at one or multiple locations depending on demand for programming. Specialized programming may require seeking outside funding (i.e. seeking partnerships and collaborations with outside groups and/or seeking grants). Tracking and maintaining program participant information. Specialists are also responsible for doing community outreach for specialized programs.
ADA Inclusion Recreation Specialist: Lead modified activities for youth with disabilities to ensure full inclusion of all participants and advise other programs/center on methods. Teach staff effective methods for including participants. Provide resource referrals for families with young children and families with children with special needs. Coordinate parent education workshops, coordinate schedules with other community agencies, plan curriculum for early childhood programming, coordinate activities with other OPR units (for specialized activities within programs such as movement and art). Administrative support for grants (i.e. attendance tracking, program quality management, client surveys, etc.)
Discovery Center Recreation Specialist: Plan and lead hands on activities in science, art and/or woodworking. Provide direction to support staff. Keep work areas clean and organized; maintain interactive projects, materials and equipment. Assist senior staff at the site, help supervise participants and provide one on one attention during hands on science and art activities and projects, prep materials for projects, and help clean and organize work areas. Work within the model of student-centered, inquiry-based education.
