Report a Crime
- If this is an EMERGENCY, call 911 (on cell phones: 777-3211)
- Gun Tip Line: (510) 535-GUNS or (510) 535-4867 (tips may be made anonymously)
- Homicide Tip Line: (510) 773-2805 (tips may be made anonymously)
- For certain types of crime, you can file an online Citizen Crime Report ("Police Report"). The online system allows you to get an Original Report Number (police report case number) and print a copy of the report.
- All other crimes should be reported on the OPD non-emergency line: (510) 777-3333.
- If you have any information about an unsolved felonious crime (homicide, armed robbery, weapons used in a crime, etc.), you may be eligible for a cash reward through the CrimeStoppers program.
To File a Report
- Open the Online Citizen Reporting System
- Select the type of incident
- Click the bubble next to the Incident Type & click Start Report
- Click the bubble next to the Report Type Original and select Continue
- Follow instructions to make your report.
File a Supplemental Report
Once your report has been reviewed and approved, you will be emailed an Original Report Number (e.g., 11-904562 - if the number starts with "T," it is only temporary). You must have this number to file a supplemental report.
- Open the Online Citizen Reporting System
- Select the type of incident
- Click the bubble next to the Incident Type & click Start Report
- Click the bubble next to the Report Type Supplemental, fill in the required information, and select Continue
- Follow instructions to add your new information.
The Crime Has Already Occurred
If the crime has already occurred, use the non-emergency line (510) 777-3333 to report it.

What About Other Kinds of Reports?
You can also make other reports using the internet.
- You can make a complaint about a barking dog by contacting Animal Services.
- You can request that a dead animal be picked up through Animal Services.
- If your pet is lost, go to the Animal Shelter Lost & Found.
