The Friday Summer Nights Program(s) are set to kick-off in East and West Oakland on July 11, 2014 and will run through August 15, 2014, Fridays from 6:00PM to 9:00PM. All events are free and open to the public. In East Oakland, the program locations are at Carter Gilmore Park, 1390 66th Avenue; and Willie Wilkins Park, 1100 98th Avenue. The West Oakland program takes place at 3233 Market Street (at the intersection of Brockhurst and Market). These events include free food, games, entertainment and raffles for all ages. The goal of these gatherings is to change community norms around violence through community engagement and empowerment. more »

A firefighter was seriously injured this morning at the Oakland International Airport when a vehicle he was driving rolled over during a drill. The incident occurred at 11:43 a.m. during a simulated red alert drill to test emergency response time to incidents on the airport grounds. more »
Oakland, CA – Operation Cross Country is a national enforcement action that is coordinated through the Innocence Lost National Initiative, which is a partnership between the FBI, local law enforcement partners, the U.S. Department of Justice, and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
The FBI reports that six juveniles, who were being victimized through prostitution, were rescued throughout the Bay Area during Operation Cross Country. more »
Oakland, CA – On Tuesday, June 24, 2014, members of the Oakland Police Department, family, and friends will participate in the Northern California Law Enforcement Torch Run, benefiting Special Olympics Northern California. The Torch Run is a year-round fundraising campaign that culminates every June at the Special Olympics Northern California Summer Games. Money raised supplies Special Olympics athletes with clothing, equipment, transportation, and the support needed while they push themselves to accomplish goals they never imagined. more »
