The State of California awarded $6 million from a Proposition 84 Statewide Parks Grant to the City of Oakland for improvements to Durant Mini Park and Golden Gate Recreation Center Expansion and Park. Oakland competed against 400 applicants for $184 Million in Prop 84 funding for this year.

For the first time ever, the Oakland Public Library and San Francisco Public Library, in partnership with Youth Speaks (the country’s leading nonprofit presenter of spoken word performance, education and youth development programs), are staging competitions that will result in two Youth Poet Laureates, one from each city.

Broadway will open its doors to 1,800 applicants who will participate in the
written exam portion for the position of Oakland Police Officer Trainee. Test times

Oakland, CA — The Oakland Police Department would like to make the public
aware of a reported sexual assault. A 25-year-old female reported that on March
17, 2012, at 1:00 a.m., she was walking in the 1900 block of Broadway when she
was approached by two strangers. Both strangers physically forced the victim at
gun point to a nearby, isolated location, where they sexually assault her at gun
point. After the sexual assault, both suspects fled the scene on foot.
