Since 2009, the City of Oakland has engaged the public in a planning process to guide future transit-oriented development within a half-mile radius of the Lake Merritt BART station. An open house is slated from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. on September 12, 2011, at Laney College’s Student Center, 900 Fallon Street. Since there’s no formal presentations, participants may arrive at their leisure and spend as much time as needed viewing displays and providing feedback. more »

In preparation for the City of Oakland’s 11th Annual Art & Soul Festival, event organizers will close a few streets in downtown Oakland. The majority of the street closures will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 19, 2011, with the closure of 14th Street between Broadway and Martin Luther King Jr. Way, 12th Street between Broadway and Jefferson Street, Clay Street between 11th and 16th streets and Jefferson Street from 11th to 15th streets. A one-block section of Clay Street from 11th to 12th streets will be closed beginning at 9 a.m. on Thursday, August 18, 2011.
