Oakland, CA — On Saturday, October 29, 2011, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Oakland Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public another opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs.

The City of Oakland is committed to facilitating peaceful protests. Mayor Jean Quan, along with Chief Howard Jordan, are open to meeting with members of the Occupy Wall Street group, and has staff working to facilitate those meetings.

Oakland, CA – City officials continued to monitor overnight demonstrations. At approximately 10 pm last night, a group of approximately 300 protesters in the area of Frank Ogawa Plaza began throwing large rocks and bottles at officers after receiving multiple orders to disperse.
