(Oakland), Calif. – If you’re planning to hit the road for a late spring or early summer getaway, be sure that everyone in the car wears their seat belt on every trip, day and night. Law enforcement throughout the state, including the Oakland Police Department, will be looking for unbelted drivers and passengers as part of the 2010 Click It or Ticket mobilization, May 24 – June 6. This year, fines and fees have increased from $132 to $142 for first time adult seat belt violations. For children under 16, the fine is now $445 for a first time offense. more »

The City of Oakland today announced that it is working with ACS State and Local Solutions to implement a new parking citation data management system. The new system would replace the City’s current phone system that handles citation requests, and would also provide online payment options. The current system is old and overtaxed, on-hold waiting times to speak to a customer service representative are unacceptably long, and the data entry backlog results in a delay between when citations are issued and when they can be paid online. The new citation management system is expected to address these problems and provide higher quality customer service. more »

The Oakland Police Department will be conducting a DUI/Drivers License checkpoint on Saturday, May 15th, 2010, from 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. In an effort to reduce the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol involved crashes, DUI checkpoints are conducted to identify offenders and get them off the street, as well as educate the public on the dangers of impaired driving. more »

Oakland, CA — Oakland Public Works is heading into week three of its spring Pothole Blitz on Monday, May 10th in West and North Oakland. More than 787 potholes were patched already in East Oakland during the first week by the Street and Sidewalk crews dispatched in the blitz strategy. An additional 429 potholes have been fixed so far during the second week in Central Oakland, and the overall goal to fix 1,000 potholes has been surpassed, with still another week to go. Because of the success of this much needed project, Public Works has extended the blitz for yet one more week to take care of 729 other existing pothole maintenance requests received by the Public Works Call Center. more »
