On Monday, January 3, 2011, Jean Quan will be publicly sworn in as the 49th mayor of Oakland, California. The swearing-in ceremony, to be conducted as part of a special meeting of the Oakland City Council at the Fox Oakland Theater, will also include the installation of sevent other elected officials. more »

Drivers should be aware that starting January 3, 2011, the City of Oakland will add $3 to all parking citations to fund a surcharge imposed by the State of California. The $3.00 surcharge will fund the State’s Trial Court Trust Fund, and will not pay for any City of Oakland programs or services. more »

As previously announced, due to budget cutbacks, the City of Oakland will suspend administrative and other City services between Monday, December 27 and Friday, December 31, as agreed to by all civilian employee unions in order to balance the City’s 2009-2011 budget. On November 8, 2010, at 9:40 p.m., Oakland police officers were flagged down concerning a domestic violence situation between a man and a woman in the 5800 block of Bancroft Avenue. As the officers began a preliminary investigation into the situation, they located Derrick Jones, who was believed to be involved in the disturbance. more »

The Oakland Police Department Traffic Division will pass out approximately 75 gifts to children ages 1 to 12 years old in the City of Oakland. A Traffic officer riding a police motorcycle dressed in a Santa suit will be contacting children on the street and passing out toys. more »
