As part of their systemwide Earthquake Safety Program, BART is strengthening elevated structures along Martin Luther King (MLK) Jr. Way in Oakland (from 47th Street to 62nd Street) to better withstand earthquakes. Starting in late September, crews will begin to construct the work area and reconfigure traffic, parking and pedestrian access along MLK Jr. Way. These temporary changes will be in place for several months, with an anticipated project completion date of late 2012.
On September 22, 2011, crews will begin construction on the Oakland Airport Connector station and guideway foundation on BART property on San Leandro Street between 73rd Avenue and Hegenberger Road.
On Sunday September 25, 2011 at approximately 4:56 P.M. two
uniformed Oakland Police Officers conducted a traffic
enforcement stop in the 1800 block of 99th avenue for a
vehicle code violation. The vehicle had two occupants, as
officers approached the car the passenger ran.
On October 1, 2011, Oakland residents may drop off bulky waste items at the Davis Street Transfer Station in San Leandro for free. To see the list of bulky goods and times and address for this event, please view the Bulky Drop-Off Event flier.
A second Bulky Item Drop-off Event will take place December 3, 2011.
On February 16, 2011 the Oakland Police Department arrested a man in the Fruitvale area on an unrelated crime, who was in possession and attempting to sell a men’s gold link chain bracelet. The individual arrested has a history of arrest and convictions for robbery. Police investigators believe the gold chain bracelet may have been taken during the commission of a crime.
The Oakland Police Department has been working diligently to address a recent
series of street robberies in which the suspects are targeting victims wearing gold
chains. We have made arrests of some suspects responsible; however we believe
that there are several non connected groups who continue to commit these crimes.
On September 3, 2011 at 4:50am, an armed robbery occurred at the Safeway grocery store located at 6310 College Ave. The store video surveillance showed the suspect approach the cashier and rob him at gun point. After committing the robbery, the suspect fled on foot and fired his gun as security attempted to approach him.
Thousands of volunteers are expected to participate in Oakland’s 16th annual Creek to Bay Day event, part of the California Coastal Commission’s Coastal Cleanup Day. The event takes place at Lake Merritt, the Oakland Estuary and creeks throughout the City, providing volunteers an opportunity to beautify Oakland’s waterways.

and demanded money.
