With help from a growing number of concerned citizens, the City of Oakland is going after individuals who are responsible for one of the worst sources of civic blight in Oakland: illegal dumping.
The Illegal Dumping Enforcement Action initiative – a joint effort by Oakland City Attorney Barbara Parker, the Public Works Agency and the City Administrator’s Office – uses photos, videos and other evidence from members of the public to track down illegal dumpers and make them pay for disrespecting Oakland’s residents, businesses and taxpayers.
Oakland, CA — On August 14, 2013 at 10:30 PM, Oakland Police responded to a call concerning a male adult selling stolen items on the 2400 block of Foothill Boulevard. Officers were directed to the suspect by an Oakland citizen.
The City of Oakland, in partnership with the Downtown Oakland Association, will open a new, temporary public space at the intersection of Broadway and Telegraph Avenue. The “pedestrian plaza” is located at the historic Latham Square, and converts Telegraph Avenue south of 16th Street to pedestrian-only space to serve as an anchor to the burgeoning Uptown District. The City and Downtown Oakland Association will host a celebration at noon on August 16 to celebrate the public space.
Oakland, CA — On August 12, 2013 at 1:00 PM, a citizen contacted the Oakland Police Department regarding suspicious activity of two individuals in the area of Sereno Circle. Officers responded and discovered that two individuals had just burglarized a residence.
Oakland, CA — On Thursday, August 8, 2013, acting on information received from the community regarding an ongoing problem with illegal activity in a multi-unit complex in the 7800 block of MacArthur, the Oakland Police SWAT team along with the Hostage Negotiation Team served a narcotics and firearms related search warrant at the complex. Officers recovered an illegally possessed rifle and several boxes of ammunition and arrested one male adult in connection with the search warrant.
Oakland, CA —Oakland Police Homicide Investigators have released a photograph of Randy Alana. Alana is considered a person of interest in the disappearance of Sandra Coke. Investigators believe Alana and Coke were together on the evening of August 4, 2013.

Attorneys Office charged three suspects in connection with the homicide of Wayne
Mortesse, 23, of Oakland.

CA. License Plate # 6BDV708 was located on August 5, 2013, at 7:45 PM, in a
parking lot on the 800 block of 32nd Street.
The Oakland Police Department is still actively searching for Coke.
Oakland, CA — Oakland Police Department Traffic Unit will be conducting a
DUI/Drivers License Checkpoint on Friday, August 30, 2013, at an undisclosed
location within the city limits between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m. DUI
checkpoints are a proven enforcement tool effective in reducing the number of
persons killed and injured in alcohol involved crashes.
