If you’re celebrating with alcohol this holiday season, the Oakland Police Department has a message for you: Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over. Due to the increase in drunk-driving-related fatalities around the holidays each year, law enforcement agencies across America will be out in force December 12, 2014 through January 1, 2015—actively searching for drunk or drug-impaired drivers.
OPD will be conducting two DUI Driving Under the Influence (DUI)/Drivers License Checkpoints and one roving DUI Saturation patrol with the first DUI operations planned on December 19, 2014 and December 31, 2014. more »

Oakland Animal Services has launched the Home for the Holidays campaign to spur more adoptions, and to welcome the community to Oakland Animal Services. The shelter will waive all adoption fees. Healthy dogs, cats and rabbits will be free to qualified homes through January 1, 2015, and can go to their new homes once they are spayed or neutered. more »

President Barack Obama recently announced his support for the use of these cameras. Oakland, CA – The Oakland Police Department has been awarded a $140,220 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) for a year-long program of special enforcement activity and public awareness efforts aimed at preventing traffic-related deaths and injuries. Oakland, CA — On December 13, 2014, an Oakland Gun Buyback event will be held at Youth UpRising on 8711 MacArthur Boulevard. Part of a statewide gun buyback initiative, the event is co-hosted by Youth UpRising in partnership with the Oakland Police Department and Gun by Gun, an organization founded in 2013 to prevent gun violence by reducing the number of unwanted and illegal guns in the community while creating an outlet for community action on the issue of gun violence prevention. more »
