Oakland, CA: At approximately 4:00pm this afternoon, “Occupy Oakland” protesters began convening in front of the Oakland Library located at 125-14th Street. The group of approximately 400 – 500 protesters began to move in the direction between 14th and Broadway, and 7th and Broadway. Protesters in the area of 7th and Broadway began throwing paint or other hazardous material at the officers who deployed gas as a defense tactic.

This morning at 4:30 am, the Oakland Police Department began enforcement of the “Notice of Violations and Demand to Cease Violations” issued on Friday, October 21, to persons staying overnight in Frank Ogawa Plaza and Snow Park related to the Occupy Oakland demonstration.
By approximately 5:30 am, Frank Ogawa Plaza had been contained, and mobilization of the clean-up phase had begun.

City employees should report to work as soon as practical given individual commute considerations. Be prepared to show your City ID to enter the buildings. Due to biohazard and safety issues, do not enter the Plaza.
Downtown employers in the area surrounding Frank Ogawa Plaza are encouraged to have employees report to work.

As a result of the police enforcement occurring at Frank Ogawa Plaza this morning, the City of Oakland is advising downtown employers to
consider having employees delay their arrival downtown this morning until further notice. City employees are also advised to delay their arrival.
