LED Streetlight Conversion Continues in Fruitvale District - Press Conference
The City of Oakland is currently converting 30,000 existing High Pressure Sodium (HPS) cobra head streetlights with Light Emitting Diode (LED) streetlights citywide.

The City of Oakland administrative offices will be closed on Monday, November 11, in observance of the Veterans Day holiday. While the City’s administrative employees are out of the office, if a situation arises that requires more staffing, the City has a plan in place to call in additional resources. Police, fire and emergency services are not affected during the holiday.
In preparation for the coming season, the Oakland Public Works Agency is taking proactive measures to get ready for wet weather. Annually, Public Works crews remove debris from storm drains, inlets, culverts, creeks and drainage structures in preparation for the winter months. Sandbags are available to residents & businesses when inclement weather is forecasted. There are also opportunities for volunteers to assist during the rainy season.
Oakland, CA —On October 24, 2013, at about 5:48 P.M, Oakland patrol officers were dispatched to the 2500 block of Telegraph Avenue on a report of a robbery of a business. The victims advised that they were robbed at gunpoint by three suspects.
Oakland, CA— On Friday, October 18, at 1:45 PM, the Area 3 Special Operations Unit, consisting of problem solving officers and a crime reduction team, executed a search warrant on the 600 block of International Boulevard at a suspected gaming house.
From October 25th through October 27th, the City of Oakland Fire Department is hosting the Fire Service and Rescue component of Urban Shield 2013. The exercises will challenge teams in the fields of Urban Search and Rescue, Hazardous Materials and Water Rescue.
Continuing to add vibrancy and cultural richness to Oakland’s booming Uptown District, the City of Oakland’s Uptown ArtPark will present four dynamic, free performances by Gamelan Sekar Jaya and Ragged Wing Ensemble in its outdoor public spaces during October in recognition of National Arts & Humanities Month.
Imagine several acres of garden illuminated with weird and enchanting art installations created by local Bay Area artists. The Gardens at Lake Merritt will be filled with these and
other surprises during Oakland’s Autumn Lights Festival on Friday and Saturday, October 18 & 19, 2013 from 6:00 to 10:00 PM.
Electric fireflies flickering in the trees, glowing waterfalls, a flock of interactive books, a Polynesian paradise with hand-crafted tiki lanterns and hula girls projected on palm trees, a snail car spewing fire, and live fire dancers light the night. Music and sound installations surprise at every turn on the garden paths that are lit with hundreds of luminarias.
Attendees are invited to participate during the evening by coming dressed in illuminated garden attire.
A fundraiser for Oakland's hidden jewel, recently named one of “California's Top 5
Gardens” by VIA Magazine, The Gardens at Lake Merritt are located in the heart of Oakland
in Lakeside Park at 666 Bellevue Ave. Funds will be used for Garden improvements for the
enjoyment of the entire community.
