The California Supreme Court’s December 29 decision regarding the elimination of Redevelopment Agencies statewide set February 1, 2012 as the dissolution date for Redevelopment Agencies. This decision will have a devastating impact on the City of Oakland. This court decision not only affects the Community and Economic Development Agency, which is primarily charged with carrying out our Redevelopment activities, it affects the entire City.
Oakland, CA - The Oakland Police Department requests assistance from the media and the public regarding the whereabouts of Sexual Assault and Robbery suspect Brionn Glasper, male African American, DOB 6-9-1997. Glasper is described as 5’5” tall, 110 lbs, with black hair and brown eyes. Glasper has been named as the suspect in two sexual assaults and robberies. He should be considered armed and dangerous.
Oakland, CA –The Oakland Police Department would like to make the public aware of a recent string of armed robberies. Each involved the victim either responding to, or placing an advertisement on Craigslist for the sale of merchandise. The victims are robbed when they arrive to complete the transaction.
The Oakland Police Department has learned that an assembly is planned to take
place on Saturday, January 14th, beginning at 8:00p.m.with a march to occur
afterward along an unplanned and unknown route from Frank H. Ogawa Plaza.
Traffic in downtown and West Oakland may be intermittently halted or rerouted.
Oakland, CA — Oakland Police Department investigators are asking citizens to help identify two men believed to be responsible for the homicide of Jose Esparza, which occurred on August 28, 2011 at approximately 12:55 PM. Crime Stoppers of Oakland is offering a reward of up to $15,000 for information leading to arrest and conviction in this case.
The Oakland Public Works Agency is sponsoring its annual
rose pruning demonstration at the Morcom Rose Garden at 700 Jean Street
from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2012 (rain or shine). This
event is in collaboration with the Friends of the Morcom Rose Garden and the
East Bay Rose Society. The public is invited to learn rose pruning techniques
from Master Rosarians. Assistance in other tasks such as mulching and
weeding will also be needed.

Oakland placed between #4 London and #6 Tokyo in the coveted list and was the highest ranked North American city.
On January 7, 2012, at 8:00 p.m. protesters gathered at Frank H. Ogawa Plaza and
marched through the downtown streets of Oakland. During the march, protesters
broke patrol vehicle windows, vandalized a media van, threw bottles at the police,
and lit an object on fire at the intersection of 8th Street and Washington Street.
