Oakland, CA — On November 26, 2012 at about 4:00 PM, the Oakland Police
Department Communications Division received a 911 from the driver of a vehicle
who told the dispatcher that a passenger in a vehicle was pointing a firearm at her
and her husband while they were driving in the area of High Street and Foothill
Since 2009, the City of Oakland has engaged the public in a planning process to guide future transit-oriented development within a half-mile radius of the Lake Merritt BART station. An open house is slated from 9 a.m. to 12 noon on December 15, 2012, at Laney College’s Student Center, 900 Fallon Street. The open house will focus on the proposals for improvements to streets and open space and land use guidelines for new development within the Planning Area that are included in the Draft Station Area Plan, as well as possible funding and implementation mechanisms to achieve these improvements. These draft proposals were crafted based on community input gathered at previous meetings.
In preparation for the coming rain, the Oakland Public Works Agency is taking proactive measures. Public Works crews remove debris from storm drains, inlets, culverts, creeks and drainage structures in preparation for the winter months. Crews are also prepared to address other storm related issues. During the rainy season, a maximum of 20 sandbags and 50 feet of plastic sheeting (per household/business) will be available for pickup. In addition, there are opportunities available for volunteers to assist during the rainy season.
Sandbags Available to Residents & Businesses

Oakland Fire Stations will join in storm preparations for our community by distributing sandbags to residents. A limit of five sandbags (per household) will be available for pickup at the Fire Stations.

connection with two Craigslist armed robberies. The Alameda County District
Attorney's Office charged Cas Black, 19, of Oakland, with two counts of armed
robbery. Police believe Black is also related to a string of similar robberies that
occurred between August 22 and October 22, 2012.
