Oakland, CA - On March 13, 2012, at approximately 9:00 p.m., two uniformed
officers assigned to a Crime Reduction Team were patrolling the area of 90th
Avenue and Birch Street as a result of recent shootings and robberies that have
occurred in the area. The officers observed an adult male whom they believed was
armed with a firearm. The man fled from the officers’ attempts to detain him for
On July 26, the Oakland City Council amended Ordinance No. 12585
C.M.S. to increase the total number of Medical Cannabis Dispensary Permits from four
to eight permits citywide. The purpose was to provide local qualified patients with a
sufficient number of dispensaries to meet their medical needs. Pursuant to the
ordinance, the Special business Permits Division of the City Administrator’s Office
commenced a formal Medical Cannabis Dispensary Request for Permit Application
(RFPA) process. The City Administrator’s Office has completed the review of
responses to the RFPA.
Oakland, CA — Within two days, members of the Oakland Police Department
have arrested a total of ten people in connection to various street robberies that
have recently occurred in the City of Oakland.
City of Oakland will temporarily close two of the four travel lanes on San Leandro Street at 47th Avenue, one in each direction, for two days to allow for much needed roadway improvement work. Two-way traffic will be maintained on San Leandro Street at all times, however traffic
delays are anticipated during construction hours (7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.) for both Thursday, March 15, 2012 and Friday, March 16, 2012.
On March 9, 2012, at 6:40 am, the Oakland Police Department responded to the
CVS Pharmacy located in the 5100 block of Broadway on a report of a man who
entered the store wearing a ski mask and demanding to speak to the manager. All
of the store employees including the manager immediately left the store, leaving
the masked man inside.
Oakland, CA — Within the last week, members of the Oakland Police Department
have been making good arrests, and getting guns off the streets of Oakland. ”I am
extremely proud of the work we are doing” said Chief Howard Jordan. He went on
to say, “getting guns off the street is certainly a high priority, it makes a significant
impact on the quality of life for our residents.”

Oakland, CA - On March 1, 2012, at 1:40 pm, the Oakland Police Department
responded to the 300 block of West MacArthur Boulevard to investigate a call of
gunshots. When officers arrived on scene they located a 16 year old male, who is
an Oakland resident, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The juvenile was
transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
