To better prepare Oakland manufacturers for the intense competition and challenges they face in today’s marketplace, the City of Oakland is hosting a free workshop entitled “Lean Manufacturing” on Thursday, February 17, 2011 from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m.
In her ongoing effort to more closely connect City
services with neighborhood needs, Mayor Jean Quan will host a second Town Hall
meeting with residents of District 6 (East Oakland from Redwood Road to
Edwards/73rd Avenue). The Town Hall will be held Saturday, March 5, 11:30-1:30
at Havenscourt Middle School, 1390 66th Avenue.
On January 26, 2011, at approximately 9:01 P.M., Oakland Police officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of 78th Ave. Upon arrival, officers discovered a vehicle was backing into a driveway and collided with the child.
Measure BB, passed in November 2010, provided funding to enable the City and the Police Department to reestablish our problem-solving officer (PSO) positions. During the week of January 8, 76 officers were reassigned to this valuable program.
Last week Chief Batts informed me that he has agreed to become a candidate for the San Jose Chief's position in October and that he was now a finalist. Know one in the City knew this at the time. He asked me to keep this confidential.

The Oakland Police Department will be conducting a DUI/Drivers License checkpoint on Friday,
January 28th, 2011, from 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. In an effort to reduce the number of persons killed and
injured in alcohol involved crashes, DUI checkpoints are conducted to identify offenders and get them
off the street, as well as educate the public on the dangers of impaired driving.
