hosting its 24th Annual Christmas Dinner. This invitation-only event will
take place at Shiloh Christian Fellowship - 3291 School Street in Oakland.
Dinner will be provided for over 500 guests and gifts will be distributed to the

Department has patrols in key areas of Oakland and will continue to partner with
other law enforcement agencies and members of the community to reduce crime

Oakland, CA — On December 14, 2013, an Oakland Gun Buyback event will be held at Youth UpRising on 8711 MacArthur Boulevard. Part of a statewide gun buyback initiative, the event is co-hosted by Youth UpRising in partnership with Gun by Gun, an organization founded in 2013 to prevent gun violence by reducing the number of unwanted and illegal guns in the community while creating an outlet for community action on the issue of gun violence prevention. Chief Sean Whent will be there to kick off the event at 9:00 AM.
The U.S. Department of Justice recently recognized Oakland’s Juvenile Justice program for its innovative work in serving youth and reducing the likelihood of their re-arrest. On Wednesday, November 13, 2013, the Council of State Governments Justice Center released the report “Reentry Matters: Strategies and Successes of Second Change Act Grantees Across the United States,” highlighting Oakland’s program along with other successes.
