Oakland, CA —On July 29, 2013, at 4:00 PM in the 200 block of 17th Street
Oakland’s Downtown Security Ambassadors notified and assisted OPD officers in
arresting armed robbery suspects.
The victim reported to police that she was approached by four suspects, one who
was armed with a knife and taser, as they demanded her belongings.
Last week the Oakland Police Department participated in “Operation Cross
Country.” Operation Cross Country is a national enforcement action that is coordinated
through the Innocence Lost National Initiative, which is a partnership between
the FBI, local law enforcement partners and the National Center for Missing and

DUI/Drivers License Checkpoint tonight, August 2, 2013, at an undisclosed
location within the city limits between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m. DUI
checkpoints are a proven enforcement tool effective in reducing the number of
persons killed and injured in alcohol involved crashes.
The Oakland Public Library is very excited to announce that 17-year-old Obasi Davis has been selected as the City of Oakland’s 2013 Youth Poet Laureate. Mr. Davis emerged as the best of eight talented finalists in a competition that began in April with a highly competitive process juried by accomplished authors, educators and community leaders.
Messengers4Change, a project of Oakland Unite within the Department of Human Services, is hosting Friday Summer Nights at the Park again this year. The parks program began Friday, July 12 and will run through August 16. All Friday Summer Nights at the Park events are free and open to the public, and they are held from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Carter Gilmore Park (located at 1390 66th Avenue) and Willie Wilkins Park (located at1100 98th Avenue). The events include free food and refreshments, games and entertainment for all ages, and raffles. The parks program is intended to change community norms around violence through community engagement and empowerment.
