To keep the City of Oakland’s vehicular and pedestrian traffic safe, Oakland Public Works will conduct a Pothole Blitz again this year. This year’s Blitz will take place April 29 through June 26, 2013. Each week, the Blitz will re-locate to another district in the City, starting on Claremont Avenue between Clifton Street and Hudson Street.

The City of Oakland Fire Department, Emergency Management Services Division will conduct its eighth annual CORE Citywide Emergency Response Exercise on Saturday, April 27, 2013. CORE stands for Communities of Oakland Respond to Emergencies. The CORE Citywide Exercise is an opportunity for residents of the Oakland community to test our disaster preparedness. On Saturday, April 27 from 9 am to 12 pm a simulated 6.6 earthquake on the Hayward fault will provide over 500 individuals representing over 50 neighborhoods throughout Oakland with an opportunity to practice their skills in responding to a major earthquake or other significant disaster.
Last Saturday, nearly 4,000 volunteers gathered to clean and green 90 locations throughout Oakland in celebration of Earth Day!
Transformations were visible all around the City. In West Oakland, neighborhood volunteers beautified DeFremery Park with 60 new drought-tolerant plants and fresh coats of paint for structures blighted with graffiti. At Lakeside Park and the Morcom Rose Garden, 200 volunteers from Starbucks helped to spread mulch and prune plants. In Chinatown and areas east of Lake Merritt, business owners and residents picked up litter and removed graffiti. At Dimond Park, hundreds of volunteer citizens worked to clear overgrowth along Sausal Creek.
On April 14, 2013, at 10:20 AM, Oakland Police officers responded to the 300
block of 11th Street on a report of an auto burglary. Witnesses observed the
suspect break into a parked car, remove the loss, and flee.
On April 4, 2013, at 3:00 PM, Oakland Police officers responded to the 4900
block of Coronado Avenue on a report of an armed robbery. The victim and
witnesses provided officers with a description of the suspects, the handgun used in
the robbery, and also the suspects’ vehicle and license plate.

detection quality validation of their system.
