Oakland, CA –The Oakland Fire Department and the Oakland Police Department are
working together to plan for a safe 4th of July Holiday in the City of Oakland.
Oakland’s Fire Chief Teresa Deloach Reed and Deputy Fire Chief James Williams,
together with Oakland Police Assistant Chief Anthony Toribio and Deputy Police Chief
Darren Allison will address the media to provide safety information as well as remind the
public of the dangers and penalties associated with the use of illegal fireworks, and
celebratory firearm discharges.

Oakland, CA —On June 26, 2012 at10:50P.M., the Oakland Police Department
responded to the 600 block of 59th Street on a report of a robbery. The victim
reported that he was robbed by two suspects and that after the robbery the suspects
fled the scene in a vehicle.

Oakland, CA — On June 2, 2012, at 8:15 PM, a 45-year old female reported that when
she walked into the public restroom, located at 666 Bellevue Avenue, she was startled by
a strange man who was already inside the restroom. The victim immediately turned and
began walking away when the stranger grabbed her from behind and began sexually
assaulting her. After the sexual assault, the suspect left the scene.

Oakland, CA - On June 19, 2012 at 6:29 A.M. the Oakland Police and Fire Departments
responded to 115 Embarcadero on a report of an unresponsive person spotted in the water
near a pier. Once the Fire Department was able to pull the man out of the water it was
discovered that he had weights attached to his body.

Oakland, CA – Oakland Police Department Traffic Unit will be conducting a
DUI/Drivers License Checkpoint on Friday, June 29th, 2012, at an undisclosed
location within the city limits between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. DUI
checkpoints are a proven enforcement tool effective in reducing the number of
persons killed and injured in alcohol involved crashes. Research shows that crashes
involving alcohol drop by an average of 20 percent when well-publicized
checkpoints are conducted often enough.
