In response to complaints by Grand Avenue merchants today to Mayor Quan about charging disabled drivers in City Parking lots as opposed to city streets, the Mayor has asked the City Administrator to clarify the City Policy on charging in city parking lots and garages; to rescind any parking tickets to disabled parkers in City lots and garages for the last two weeks and to refrain from ticketing parkers with legal disabled placards until the policy is clarified and properly noticed; if the policy is confirmed, to post appropriate signage and give a two-week notice to the public before implementing and to meet with the merchant associations in each affected area before implementation. more »
City of Oakland administrative offices will be closed on Monday, September 5, and Friday, September 9, in observance of Labor Day and Admissions Day holidays. Additionally, due to budget cutbacks the City of Oakland will suspend administrative and other City services for a business closure day on Monday, September 12, 2011. Since 2009, the City of Oakland has engaged the public in a planning process to guide future transit-oriented development within a half-mile radius of the Lake Merritt BART station. An open house is slated from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. on September 12, 2011, at Laney College’s Student Center, 900 Fallon Street. Since there’s no formal presentations, participants may arrive at their leisure and spend as much time as needed viewing displays and providing feedback. more »
The Oakland Police Department will be conducting a DUI/Driver License checkpoint on Saturday, August 27, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. in an effort to reduce the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol involved crashes.
