The murder of Jesus "Chuy" Campos, a respected, valued, and loved member of the community is a true tragedy. Mr. Campos was well known for his generosity and will be missed by many. He was very dedicated to our community and attended the Fruitvale merchants meeting just two days ago with the express goal of making the area safer.
Oakland Mayor Jean Quan announced today the appointments of Andrew “Drew” Lisac as her Senior Policy Advisor for Economic Development and Hatzune Aguilar as Special Assistant to the Mayor, as the two final appointments to her Mayoral Staff of nine. She also named Lewis Cohen, formerly Senior Policy Advisor for Education, as Deputy Mayor for Policy & Program, and Sharon Cornu, formerly Senior Policy Advisor for Intergovernmental Relations, as Deputy Mayor for Community & Governmental Relations to coordinate management of the Mayor’s Office.
Over 80 exhibitors and 2,000 attendees will take part in downtown Oakland’s springtime green fair – EarthEXPO – on Wednesday, April 13th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This year’s fair, held at Frank H. Ogawa Plaza, will feature Local Eats – lunch menus of fresh, local and sustainable foods sold by local food vendors. For those interested in learning more about sustainable food, several exhibitors will provide information about composting, backyard and community gardening, buying local, organic foods and much more.
Douglas K. Yim, Jr, turned himself into police in Firebaugh, Fresno
County, Monday morning at 4:15 a.m. Yim was turned over to the custody of the Oakland Police and charged by Alameda County District Attorney’s Office for
murder and attempted murder.
