Oakland, CA — The Oakland Police Department would like to make the public aware of a sexual assault that occurred in the 950 block of E.28th Street near Bella Vista Elementary School.
On March 28, 2014 at 3:15 PM, the victim, who is a 6-year-old female, was lured away from the school by the suspect and assaulted. After the assault the victim was able to return to the school to alert an adult.
Oakland, CA – The Oakland Police Department has identified and arrested two of
three suspects wanted in connection with numerous armed robberies of commercial
establishments in North Oakland and other areas of the City.
The arrests were the result of the community and OPD working together to identify
and located these criminal offenders. The OPD team included a Crime Reduction
Team, led by Sergeant Joseph McGuinn; Problem Solving officers, led by Sergeant
Francisco Rojas; the Gangs Guns and Intelligence Task Force officers; and the
Criminal Investigation team.

On that date the victim, a 27-year-old woman, was approached by a stranger from behind. The stranger grabbed her and began dragging her backwards while touching her in an inappropriate manner. The victim struggled and was able to get away and call the police.
The City of Oakland today announced the temporary street closures and parking restrictions in effect for the 5th annual Oakland Running Festival which takes place on Sunday, March 23, 2014. The 26.2 mile marathon starts at 7:30 a.m. from 19th and Harrison (Snow Park). In addition to much of downtown, the marathon course will take runners along Broadway Auto Row, Piedmont Avenue, Temescal, Rockridge, Upper Rockridge, Fernwood, Montclair, Oakmore/Upper Park, Dimond, Fruitvale, San Antonio, Eastlake, West Oakland, Northgate and Lake Merritt.
Oakland Public Works brought home several top honors from the American Public Works Association (APWA) Northern California Chapter at its annual awards ceremony. Oakland Public Works was honored with five of the twenty awards given annually to Association members from more than 70 agencies throughout Northern California. The Oakland Public Works Agency and Children’s Fairyland celebrate Arbor Day on Saturday, March 15! Join Fairyland’s families, tree enthusiasts, arborists, tree inspectors and special performers from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to give much-needed loving care and maintenance to over 100 large trees in this special part of Oakland’s urban forest. Children will have the opportunity to climb trees like the pros, build bird houses and bee-hotels, learn how to compost and witness live demonstrations on wood milling. The event promises to be a perfect fusion of community action and environmental education for every age.
