The City of Oakland has issued a Notice of Parklet Availability (NPA) for a pilot program to bring temporary parklets to Oakland’s various commercial corridors. Parklets are the latest trend to improve an area’s pedestrian friendliness by creating publicly accessible spaces to sit and interact. The pilot program will result in up to eight parklets being selected from all complete submissions received by the October 24th deadline.

The Oakland Redevelopment Agency has announced that two new auto dealerships will be coming soon to Broadway Auto Row. Nissan of Oakland will open a 20,000-square-foot facility at 2855 Broadway and Infiniti of Oakland will open a 40,000-square-foot-facility at 2735 Broadway. The new dealerships will feature Infiniti’s luxury cars and SUVs, Nissan’s full line of new cars and trucks including the fully electric Leaf, used vehicle sales, parts and repair service.

As part of their systemwide Earthquake Safety Program, BART is strengthening elevated structures along Martin Luther King (MLK) Jr. Way in Oakland (from 47th Street to 62nd Street) to better withstand earthquakes. Starting in late September, crews will begin to construct the work area and reconfigure traffic, parking and pedestrian access along MLK Jr. Way. These temporary changes will be in place for several months, with an anticipated project completion date of late 2012.

On Sunday September 25, 2011 at approximately 4:56 P.M. two
uniformed Oakland Police Officers conducted a traffic
enforcement stop in the 1800 block of 99th avenue for a
vehicle code violation. The vehicle had two occupants, as
officers approached the car the passenger ran.
