Oakland, Ca-This weekend Oakland Animal Services (OAS), a unit of the Oakland
Police Department, will be participating in Maddie's Matchmaker Adopt-a-thon.
This is your opportunity to adopt that puppy, kitten, dog, or cat for free, to
qualified homes. For every successful adoption, OAS will earn a generous donation of $500 to
$2,000 from Maddie’s Foundation.
Oakland, CA — On May 29, 2013, just before 2:00 PM, an Oakland Police
Department officer-involved shooting occurred in the 2400 block of Ritchie Street.
Officers assigned to a specialized crime reduction team received information that
occupants of a particular vehicle may be armed with a firearm; officers observed
the vehicle in the area of 90th Avenue and Bancroft Avenue. Officers attempted an
enforcement stop; a pursuit ensued.
On Saturday, June 1 from 9:30 am to 4 pm, the City of Oakland will co-host ReWrite Oakland as part of the National Day of Civic Hacking, in collaboration with OpenOakland, Code for America, The Hub Oakland and PopUpHood. The event will be hosted by PopUpHood, located at 1423 Broadway (in Frank H. Ogawa Plaza). ReWrite Oakland is an all-day writeathon that will culminate with the launch of a new website called “Oakland Answers.” Oakland Answers will be citizen-focused, written in plain language, and will make it quick and simple for people to find City information and services online.
Oakland, CA — On May 26, 2013, at 11:46 AM, Oakland Police officers responded to the area of 8th Avenue and Beatie Street, where a citizen was holding a juvenile subject for an armed robbery that had occurred two days prior. On May 24, 2013, at 4:55 PM, the victim had been robbed at gunpoint by two male subjects, who took her cell phone and cash. The victim identified the juvenile suspect as the one who had been armed with the gun.
Oakland, CA — On May 24, 2013, at 12:52 PM, the Oakland Police Department Communications Division received a call from a concerned citizen reporting a suspicious vehicle with one occupant inside. Oakland Police officers responded to 13600 Campus Drive and discovered that the vehicle had been taken in a carjacking out of Hayward on May 22.
Oakland, Ca- On May 16, 2013, at 8:29 PM, Oakland Police officers responded
to the 4800 block of Melrose Avenue where a strong arm robbery and attempted
carjacking had just occurred. The victim reported that he had just been approached
by a male juvenile suspect, who demanded his car keys and assaulted him.

The free, festive event will enrich three miles of car-free streets with recreational and cultural activities. At 2 p.m., join Mayor Jean Quan and representatives from the Measure DD Community Coalition on the south end of the lake for the Lake Merritt Boulevard Grand Opening Celebration showcasing a beautiful new amphitheater and four-acre park.
The City of Oakland administrative offices will be closed on Monday, May 27, in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. While the City’s administrative employees are out of the office, if a situation arises that requires more staffing, the City has a plan in place to call in additional resources. Police, fire and emergency services are not affected during the holiday.
The City of Oakland’s vision of electric streetcars buzzing down Broadway has moved one step closer to fruition. On May 21, 2013, the Oakland City Council unanimously approved a consultant contract to begin studying the feasibility of extending the popular Free “B” Shuttle route to the MacArthur BART station and building an electric streetcar system on Broadway that would eventually convert the shuttle system to a fixed rail line.

Broadway, Oakland Police officers responded to a call of a person armed with a
gun. The witnesses who called 911 told police that they overheard the suspect
bragging to a group of people that he had a gun. The witnesses then saw the suspect
pull out a firearm.
