LED Streetlight Conversion Following the success of a pilot program late last year, Oakland will be converting 30,000 existing High Pressure Sodium (HPS) cobra head streetlights with Light Emitting Diode (LED) streetlights. Replacement of the existing streetlight fixtures with the new LED fixtures will provide a better quality of light that will enhance public safety and help reduce crime. In addition, the conversion project will save the City money as the new LED technology is more energy efficient and the bulbs have a longer lifespan. The City of Oakland administrative offices will be closed on Friday, June 14, 2013, for a mandatory business closure day. This is the final business closure day for FY 2012-13. While the City’s administrative employees are out of the office, if a situation arises that requires more staffing, the City has a plan in place to call in additional resources.
