The City of Oakland administrative offices will be closed on Monday, May 27, in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. While the City’s administrative employees are out of the office, if a situation arises that requires more staffing, the City has a plan in place to call in additional resources. Oakland, CA — On May 10, 2013, at 3:42 PM, in the area of 14th Street and Broadway, Oakland Police officers responded to a call of a person armed with a gun. The witnesses who called 911 told police that they overheard the suspect bragging to a group of people that he had a gun. The witnesses then saw the suspect pull out a firearm. more »

Public Works Week is a special opportunity to increase public awareness and understanding about the importance of a well-maintained infrastructure for public health, community wellbeing and safety and the essential role public works plays in the stewardship of the city. The purpose of the week is to bring attention to the work of public works and to honor employees who care for the infrastructure day in and day out. The American Public Works Association (APWA) has selected “Because of Public Works...” as its theme for 2013’s National Public Works Week. The theme is about the quality of life brought to communities around the world. Oakland, Ca. As motorists take to the roads this Memorial Day holiday, East Bay police are urging everyone to buckle up.
