CULTURAL ARTS EXPLOSION!
With the increased interest in cultural identity today, Lincoln Square has expanded our offering of Cultural Arts Programs with the addition of a Chinese Orchestra,
Cantonese Opera, Mandarin Choir, Chinese Brush Painting, Calligraphy, Lion Dance, Chi Gong, Tai Chi, and Tai Chi Swords.
GIRLS SPORTS PROGRAM
Lincoln Square offers a variety of programs just for girls throughout the year, and is the training facility for the City of Oakland’s US Youth Games (USYG) Championship Volleyball Team that won gold in Cocoa Beach, Florida. For 2011, we are recruiting athletes (age 15-under) to compete at the USYG for one week in July; practice begins in the Spring. Please come by and inquire for more information!
WATER-SPORTS IN CHINATOWN?
Well, almost! We have expanded our programming to include swim lessons with the Oakland Undercurrents Swim Program at Laney College, and the Aquatics Division of Oakland Parks and Recreation. We are well on our way to developing our Middle School and Senior Dragon Boat team, as well as kayaking and canoeing programs at both the Lake Merritt Boating Center and the Oakland Estuary at the Jack London Aquatics Center.
Park Improvements
In partnership with the City of Oakland’s Office of Community and Economic Development Agency, Oakland Redevelopment Agency, and the Stewardship Council, we will begin construction of the new Lincoln Square Outdoor Recreation Corridor. This area will feature a turf field, hard-court play area, stretching and fitness station, café seating, an elevated stage, an improved walking corridor and interpretative panels educating the community about our local natural resources such as the Lake Merritt Wildlife Sanctuary and the San Francisco Bay.
