Franklin Recreation Center is located in Lower East Oakland, adjacent to Franklin Elementary School. The center features a lighted softball field, outside basketball court, patio areas, asphalt playground, and children’s play structures outside. Inside our building, our center features a social hall/multi-purpose room, and an activity room which serves as our game room and computer lab. This great community resource offers diverse programming for children and teens.

SUMMER CAMP
June 24 - August 16

Franklin Summer Camp runs for 8 weeks. Monday-Friday 8am-6pm. Cost: $75 per week. For kids ages 5-13. Each week of our Summer Day Camp is packed with fun! Kids will play team building games, sports, exercise and fitness, relay races, create cool and original arts & crafts projects, paint, make jewelry, go swimming, and go on fantastic field trips. A snack will be provided daily, and FREE lunch will be provided on non-field trip days. Online registration is open now! In person Registration begins April 2nd. Space always fills up by the end of May so don't wait to register or you'll miss out on getting a spot!

AFTERSCHOOL ALL ACCESS
Our Afterschool All Access program is for kids in grades K-5th. We operate Monday through Friday 3-6pm (Wednesdays 1:20-6pm). We offer homework assistance, a daily snack, and various activities and classes. We foster healthy living and physical activities through team building games, relay races, exercise, dance, and sports. We foster and encourage creativity through arts & crafts, puppet making, skits, jewelry making, painting and other activities. We provide a safe and fun space with caring adult staff.
YOUTH SPORTS
Learn how to play flag football, basketball, soccer, t-ball and run track & field!
Flag Football (Sept-Nov) Practice is every Tuesday & Thursday from 3:30-5:00pm on Franklin field with Coach Teddy. Our team divison is co-ed boys & girls grades 3-5. Games are on Saturdays beginning mid-October. The cost is $40 per player and includes a jersey.
Youth Basketball (Jan-Mar) Practice is every Tuesday & Thursday from 3:30-5:00pm at Franklin with Coach Teddy. Our team divison is co-ed boys & girls grades 3-5. Games are on Saturdays beginning late-Feb through March. The cost is $40 per player and includes a jersey.
Track & Field (March-June) We are currently in our Track season. We take participants ages 5 and up. Training is on Mondays & Wednesdays from 4:30-5:45pm with Coach Terrance who is coaching his 5th year with us. Coach Terrance ran track when he was a youth in High School and he brings skills, energy, excitement and experience to expose, enlighten, empower, and encourage our youth!
KARATE
Learn techniques of self-defense while gaining self-respect, self-discipline and respect for others. Beginning classes are every Tuesday & Thursday from 6pm-7pm. The class is $25 per month. A discount is given for a family of three or more children. Classes are on-going and continue throughout the year.
BOY SCOUTS
Boys in 1st grade and up can join the Franklin Recreation Center's Boy Scouts Troop. Troop Leader John Durden teaches boys how to build and create things, foster team building in engaging activities and more. Boys Scouts meet on Wednesdays from 2:30-3:30pm.
Facility Rental Information
Recreation Centers may be reserved 30 days to 11 months in advance of the requested reservation date. If a request is approved for an event within two weeks to 30 days, an administrative service fee will apply. NO reservation requests are accepted less than two weeks in advance.
