Franklin Gone Fishin' & Kayaking
Spring Break Day Camp April 14 - 18

(Click on images for larger view)
During Spring Break Day Camp we had about 30 kids at Franklin and got together with Carmen Flores Recreation Center to bring kids from 2 different communities in Oakland together to go hiking around the lake, bbq, play field games, and go fishing at Lake Temescal. This was in partnership with and made possible by East Bay Regional Park District. Just a couple kids had been fishing before and most were exposed to it for the first time. Although we didn't catch any fish this time, they all tried it and all loved it! We also got to take 12 of our older kids kayaking at Lake Merritt & JLAC Oakland Estuary thanks to our great Outdoor Adventure program based at Lake Merritt Boating Center.
On Friday, January 31, Franklin Recreation Center hosted School's Out Rec’s In Camp. Staff took advantage of the beautiful weather and took 17 kids, ages 5 to 10, on a fun hike along trails at Roberts Regional Park. The kids enjoyed beautiful, scenic views during the hike, smelled the trees, and listened to the chirping birds. The trip made for a refreshing and exciting adventure where the kids had a whole lot of fun! Take a look at some of our pictures...
