Looking for extracurricular activities as an antidote to a sedentary lifestyle? The City of Oakland Parks and Recreation Department’s Adult Sports division has developed an array of recreational and competitive athletic opportunities that let grown-ups play like kids-at-heart. The Adult Sports programs include a range of activities including slow pitch softball, basketball for youth and seniors, volleyball, flag football, and tennis.

Spring and winter basketball leagues include divisions for Women, Co-ed, and Men 30 and over. Games are held on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings for 10-weeks. Registration takes place in January and March.
Flag football leagues are offered during the fall season; teams play a five-week doubleheader schedule. Divisions include Men’s Major, Men’s B,Women’s Open and Co-ed Open. League games are held on Saturday mornings. Registration begins in September.
Slow and fast pitch softball leagues are offered during spring, summer, fall, and winter seasons; M-Th, from 6:45-10 p.m., for 10 weeks. The top four teams play for the the CHAMPIONSHIP tournament. Registration takes place in February, May, and July.
Winter, spring and fall Adult coed volleyball leagues include divisions for Women and Reverse Coed. Leagues are held on Monday and Thursday evenings for an eight-week season. Registration opens April and September.
Field and Court Rentals
The City of Oakland has many Athletic Fields, and Tennis Courts available to rent that accomodate various types of sports and activities. Our 52 multi-use fields, rangeing from football to soccer, are available for rent to accommodate leagues, private parties, and even group tournaments.
Field reservations may be made with the Athletic Field Reservation staff between the hours of 12:00 to 5:00pm, Monday through Thursday.
