Oakland Earth Day 2012

The City of Oakland Public Works Agency thanks everyone who helped make Earth Day 2012 a great success!
Oakland’s 18th annual Earth Day took place at 100 locations on Saturday, April 21st. Over 2,500 volunteers gathered under sunny skies to clean and beautify Oakland’s parks, waterways, streets and other public spaces. In total, volunteers dedicated 8,509 hours of service and collected over 15 tons of trash, 61 tons of greenwaste and 533 pounds of recyclables.
There are many people who deserve recognition for their roles in making Earth Day 2012 a successful event. In particular, this year’s Earth Day would not have been possible without the dedicated Community Site Coordinators who planned activities and recruited and organized volunteers. We also wish to acknowledge and thank the following businesses for donating food, refreshments and gifts to volunteers: Chinook Book, Clif Bar, One Pacific Coast Bank and Numi Tea.
