Restoration Project Approach
The Watershed Improvement Program favors state-of-the-art techniques, often the "low-tech" approaches, to restore Oakland's creeks. For example, willow cuttings shaped into "fascines" (bundles) are driven into creek banks where they take root and hold soil in place. In the past, concrete was used to stabilize creek banks.
Some of Oakland's Creek Improvement Goals
- Stabilize creek banks
- Enhance habitats
- Remove non-native plants to make room for plants native to Oakland's creekside areas
