Emergency Management Resources for Persons with Access and Functional Needs
City of Oakland Resources
Be prepared!
The City of Oakland is dedicated to preserving the well-being of our entire community in the event of an emergency, but everyone must be prepared. Part of preparation is signing up for alerts. If we can't reach you, we can't alert you!
- AC Alert will provide you critical information quickly in a variety of situations, such as earthquakes, fires, severe weather, unexpected road closures, missing persons and evacuations of buildings or neighborhoods. You can select to receive notifications for your home city, work location, and other sites of your choice on your home, mobile or business phones, email address, text messages and more. AC Alert is a unified system for Alameda County residents, businesses, and visitors. We are in partnership with Alameda County agencies and its cities.
- GovDelivery is an email-based subscription system for receiving emergency alerts, as well as updates about specific topics of interest in the City of Oakland.
The City of Oakland Human Services Department has compiled a list of tips and resources for preparing for an emergency as a person with a disability, senior, or if you have other access and functional needs.
Mass Care and Shelter Plan Functional Needs Annex (update pending as of 2017)
In August 2007, the City launched a comprehensive review of its emergency preparedness programs, activities and services, and created a Functional Needs Annex ("the Annex") to complement the City’s Mass Care and Shelter Plan. The Annex makes sure that people with disabilities are fully integrated in the City’s emergency preparedness plans and activities, such as shelter operations, emergency transportation, and communications. The City is currently updating all of its emergency plans and improving the integration of access and functional needs considerations throughout. Additional information regarding these updates will be posted here soon.
