The Oakland Police Department will be conducting a DUI/Drivers License checkpoint on Friday,
January 28th, 2011, from 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. In an effort to reduce the number of persons killed and
injured in alcohol involved crashes, DUI checkpoints are conducted to identify offenders and get them
off the street, as well as educate the public on the dangers of impaired driving.
On December 20, 2010, at 1:30 P.M., members of the Oakland Police Department Gang Investigation
Task Force (GITF) received information that a shooting was scheduled to occur in the West Oakland
area known as the ACORN. Officers received additional information that a 1990 maroon Lincoln sedan
would be associated with the attack and that the occupants were armed with an assault rifle.
Oakland (CA) – On December 20, 2010, at 2:15 PM, Oakland Police officers from the “Target Enforcement Task Force” were investigating information they received that a vehicle wanted in a shooting was last seen near MLK Jr. Way and Sycamore Street.
On November 8, 2010, at 9:40 p.m., Oakland police officers were flagged down concerning a domestic violence situation between a man and a woman in the 5800 block of Bancroft Avenue. As the officers began a preliminary investigation into the situation, they located Derrick Jones, who was believed to be involved in the disturbance.
The Oakland Police Department Traffic Division will pass out approximately 75
gifts to children ages 1 to 12 years old in the City of Oakland. A Traffic officer riding a police motorcycle dressed in a Santa suit will be contacting children on the street and passing out toys.
On December 11, 2010, at approximately 11:00 P.M, Oakland Police Officers were dispatched on reports of a large crowd gathering outside of a party. Officers arrived on scene and found a
crowd of 100 people gathered on the sidewalk and in the street.
OPD will be conducting a DUI/Drivers License checkpoint on Thursday, December 23rd and Friday, December 31st in an effort to reduce the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol-involved crashes.
The Oakland Police Department, along with other “Avoid the 21” agencies, will be conducting two DUI Saturations (Friday, December 17 from 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. and Sunday, December 19 from 3:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m).in an unannounced area within the city limits.
On Wednesday, December 1, 2010, at approximately 5:00 AM, the Oakland Police received an emergency phone call reporting a shooting in the 9200 block of Cherry Street. Officers arrived and met with Walter Sayles who reported to be the victim of a shooting. While speaking with investigators, Sayles confessed to committing over thirty armed robberies at 76 Gas Stations, Quik Stop Markets, and ARCO Stations in East and West Oakland.
On December 1, 2010, at about 11:11 PM, the Communications Division received multiple calls from
citizens reporting numerous gunshots being heard in the 1500 block of Madison Street. Officers responded to the scene and found
a man suffering from a gunshot wound to his stomach.
