Oakland, CA — Oakland Police Department investigators are asking citizens to help identify two men believed to be responsible for the homicide of Jose Esparza, which occurred on August 28, 2011 at approximately 12:55 PM. Crime Stoppers of Oakland is offering a reward of up to $15,000 for information leading to arrest and conviction in this case.
On January 7, 2012, at 8:00 p.m. protesters gathered at Frank H. Ogawa Plaza and
marched through the downtown streets of Oakland. During the march, protesters
broke patrol vehicle windows, vandalized a media van, threw bottles at the police,
and lit an object on fire at the intersection of 8th Street and Washington Street.
The Oakland Police Department has learned that an assembly is planned to take
place on Saturday, January 7th, beginning at 8:00p.m.with a march to occur
afterward along an unplanned and unknown route from Frank H. Ogawa Plaza.
Oakland, CA —On January 4, 2012, the Oakland Police
Department informed protesters in Frank Ogawa Plaza they would have to remove all
items such as displays, tables, large umbrellas and teepee that were set up. At 11:00 pm Public Works arrived with a truck to remove items with the assistance of
OPD to ensure the safety of Public Works. The protesters were again asked to remove
the items, but refused. Police arrested 12 protesters.

Oakland, CA - On December 23, 2011 at approximately 11:17 pm, the Oakland
Police Department responded to the 1300 block of Broadway on a report of a
shooting. When officers arrived on scene, they discovered three male, juvenile
victims suffering from gunshot wounds.
Oakland, CA — The Oakland Police Department received a report of a female who
was walking in the 9000 block of Holly Street on December 26, 2011 at 6:56 a.m.,
when she was approached by a stranger from behind who grabbed her and
physically forced her against a gate. The suspect held the victim at knife point and
demanded money. After the victim gave the suspect her money, he sexually
assaulted her then ran from the scene.
