Oakland, CA – Although portions of the investigation remain active, the Oakland Police Department can now confirm the existence of a long-term, multi-agency investigation of a violent East Oakland gang. Commonly known as “the Burn Out Family,” the criminal organization was involved in activity such as illegal firearm possession, narcotics trafficking, and fraudulent credit card activities.
Oakland, CA - On July 6, 2012, at approximately 6:09 p.m., two uniformed
officers assigned to patrol were in the area of 7th and Clay street attending to a call
when they observed a female adult running towards them and waving her arms to
gain their attention. A vehicle left the roadway behind her and went onto the
sidewalk in what appeared to be a deliberate attempt to run the female over.
Oakland, CA – On July 2, 2012, a three-year-old boy was transported to a local hospital by paramedics after his babysitter reported that he was unresponsive. Oakland police officers and investigators began an investigation due to the extent and nature of injuries and evidence of past physical abuse. The child is currently in a life threatening condition.
Oakland, CA —On June 27, 2012 at 12:20 P.M., four adult male suspects entered
an Oakland residence in the 2000 block of 26th Avenue. One of the suspects armed
himself with a kitchen knife that he retrieved inside. All three victims were forced
inside a closet and barricaded while the suspects conducted a messy search of the

Oakland’s Fire Chief Teresa Deloach Reed and Deputy Fire Chief James Williams,
together with Oakland Police Assistant Chief Anthony Toribio and Deputy Police Chief
Darren Allison will address the media to provide safety information as well as remind the
public of the dangers and penalties associated with the use of illegal fireworks, and
celebratory firearm discharges.
Oakland, CA —On June 26, 2012 at10:50P.M., the Oakland Police Department
responded to the 600 block of 59th Street on a report of a robbery. The victim
reported that he was robbed by two suspects and that after the robbery the suspects
fled the scene in a vehicle.
Oakland, CA — On June 2, 2012, at 8:15 PM, a 45-year old female reported that when
she walked into the public restroom, located at 666 Bellevue Avenue, she was startled by
a strange man who was already inside the restroom. The victim immediately turned and
began walking away when the stranger grabbed her from behind and began sexually
assaulting her. After the sexual assault, the suspect left the scene.

Oakland, CA - On June 19, 2012 at 6:29 A.M. the Oakland Police and Fire Departments
responded to 115 Embarcadero on a report of an unresponsive person spotted in the water
near a pier. Once the Fire Department was able to pull the man out of the water it was
discovered that he had weights attached to his body.
