Block-Level Programs
At the block level, residents and merchants are encouraged to form Neighborhood Watch or Merchant Watch groups to meet each other, learn crime prevention techniques, and work together to solve block-level problems.
Neighborhood Watch
Neighborhood Watch is a partnership between neighbors and the Oakland Police Department to improve safety and prevent crime. Forming a Neighborhood Watch group on your block is the first step to making and keeping your neighborhood safe. More >
Merchant Watch
Merchants actively participate in cooperation with law enforcement to reduce crime in their business corridors. You may hear this program called Merchant Watch, Business Alert, or Business Watch. But the idea is the same: Merchants looking out for each other. More >
City-County Neighborhood Initiative
The City-County Neighborhood Initiative (CCNI) helps community members work together to solve problems and create a better standard of living for themselves. CCNI works in two targeted neighborhoods: Sobrante Park in East Oakland and the Hoover Historic District in West Oakland. More >
Elmhurst Weed and Seed Initiative
Weed and Seed is a federally funded program designed to create partnerships among residents and local, state and federal agencies to deter or "weed out” violent crime, drug trafficking, and drug-related crime in targeted high-crime neighborhoods. “Seeds of Change” are planted, including after school programs, better businesses in commercial areas, and programs for those attempting to change their lives for the better.
