Mayor delivers State of the City address: how to watch it
On Feb. 27, I delievered my second annual State of the City address. It has been an honor to serve as your Mayor, as we continue our third year together, I asked everyone in Oakland to consider the progress our proud and beautiful city has made in the last two years despite tough economic times and unexpected events, and to soberly assess the challenges still ahead.
I'll be continuing to raise these issues and keep these discussions active in the coming months. In the meantime, you can watch the video of the speech in two ways:

Oakland Mayor’s summer jobs program kicks
off with $50,000 grant from Bank of America
The Mayor’s Summer Jobs Program, which last year offered summer
employment to almost 1,000 Oakland youths, kicked off this year with a $50,000
grant from Bank of America, which we announced Feb. 5.
My goal is to provide a job for every kid who applies. Last year,
that was about 2,000 kids. We were able to find positions for about 1,000 of
them, and about half of them were kids from some of our toughest
neighborhoods.
Bank of America’s grant is to the East Bay Community Foundation through its
workforce development fund. The $50,000 grant will create 31 jobs for local
teens, working with the City of Oakland, non-profit organizations, and local
Oakland businesses.
This year, the City of Oakland intends to train and place over 1,000 youth into
summer jobs. To meet this goal, they are looking to the private sector to create
over 2,000 jobs. To support the jobs program and hire a youth for summer 2013,

Oakland to offer nation’s
first municipal identification/debit card
Appointments begin Feb. 19
The City of Oakland officially launched the Oakland City ID Prepaid
MasterCard program on Friday, February 1, 2013. This will be the first
card of its kind in the United States and represents a major new resource for
the community.
In addition to its city center office, the program has opened a second office
to support card holder acquisition at the Spanish Speaking Citizens’
Foundation located at 1470 Fruitvale Avenue, Oakland, 94601. A third
office will be opened in East Oakland in March.
