Chabot Space & Science Center offers $1 admission for Snap/EBT cardholders
Mayor Schaaf joined Chabot Space & Science Center Executive Director and CEO Alex Swissler, District 4 City Councilmember Annie Campbell-Washington, Oakland Parks and Recreation Director Audree Jones-Taylor and Sara Bedford, Director of Human Services, City of Oakland to announce that under the Golden State Advantage Cardholder Program, any individual receiving benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance (SNAP) program, will enjoy $1 admission per person to Chabot Space & Science Center, with no limit to the number of visits per year. To receive the discounted admission, participants need only to show their Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card at the admission desk and pay the discounted fee for each person in their group, up to a maximum of 10 people. As part of the partnership, AC Transit is offering expanded weekend bus service to Chabot Space & Science Center. Click here for more details.
Matt Nichols new Policy Director for Infrastructure and Transportation
In this role, Matt Nichols will be Mayor Schaaf's primary liaison to city staff and external agencies responsible for planning, project development and delivery, and funding of infrastructure and transportation projects.For the past 13 years, Mr. Nichols served as Principal Transportation Planner for the City of Berkeley, raising approximately $40 million for transportation projects, while leading city-wide and neighborhood-based integrated transit, pedestrian and bicycle planning including managing federal, regional and local grant funds. Mayor Schaaf chooses City Administrator
Mayor Libby Schaaf today announced Sabrina Landreth as her choice for Oakland City Administrator. A former Deputy City Administrator for the City of Oakland, Ms. Landreth currently serves as the City Manager for neighboring Emeryville. Upon City Council approval of her appointment and negotiated contract, Ms. Landreth will assume her new role once a suitable replacement is found for her current position in Emeryville, but no later than July 2015. Mayor Libby Schaaf was inaugurated during a public ceremony on January 5 at the historic Paramount Theatre of the Arts. The event also included the ceremonial installation of Councilmembers Abel Guillen, Annie Campbell Washington and Desley Brooks; City Auditor Brenda Roberts and Oakland Board of Education members Aimee Eng, Nina Senn and Shanthi Gonzales.
