Aging & Adult Services
Aging and Adult Services provides programs for seniors, as well as for adults and persons with disabilitiesand their families. The various programs provide services that maximize self-sufficiency, safety, health, active living and independance. Community partners enrich a wide range of services that include care management, employment, training, volunteer opportunities, recreation and transportation assistance.

Emergency Financial Assistance
This program provides financial assistance of up to $1000 to Oakland seniors who may otherwise lose their independence because of an unforeseen emergency impacting their healt or housing status. Detailed information about this program.
2015 Alameda County Survey for Older Adults
Alameda County is developing a plan for seniors and would like to hear from you. If you are 55 years or older, and live in Alameda County, please complete this 10-15 minute survey to help us learn about how Alameda County can be a better place for older adults to live. None of the information you provide will be shared with anyone else.
Programs for Seniors
The mission of the ASSETS Program is to enable older adults to achieve gainful employment and personal developement through training and community service. It is an important resource for adults and veterans age 55 or older who want to remain in the workforce but experience barriers such ad discrimination, disability, limited English proficiency, and homelessness. - Multipurpose Senior Services Program
The goal of MSSP is to help seniors continue living safely and independently in their own homes. Each senior is assigned a nurse and social worker who assess needs and provide ongoing care management. Multipurpose Senior Services Program (MSSP)
- Oakland Paratransit for the Elderly and Disabled
OPED offers paratransit services to adults with mobility disabilities and to elderly residents of Oakland and Piedmont who cannot access public transportation. Taxis and wheelchair-lift vans provide transit to medical appointments, shopping and other activities. Oakland Paratransit for the Elderly and Disabled (OPED)
- Senior Companions / Foster Grandparents / Taxi Up and Go Program
Senior Companions make a difference simply by being friends to other older adults and by helping with grocery shopping and other daily tasks. Foster Grandparents help at-risk children and youth by giving them much needed attention, advice on life issues, and help with their school work. Volunteers who are income-eligible receive small stipends and community recognition for their dedication and service. Taxi Up & Go provide Free Taxi Scrip to seniors who need transportation/assistance with attending medical appointments and grocery shopping:

- Senior Centers
City-sponsored senior centers in six locations provide a broad range of classes and special events, as well as free or low-cost meals. Oakland's Senior Centers offer numerous opportunities for education, social interaction, recreation and community services. They are a terrific place to socialize and interact with other active seniors. Senior Centers
Mayor's Commision On Aging
The Mayor's Commision on Aging represents and addresses the issues faced by Oakland Seniors. It is an appointed group of volunteers who work in partnership with the Department of Human Services to develop and evaluate programs which address special needs of Seniors. Learn more about the Commision.
