Economic Development- Co-Chairs: Darleen Brooks & Yap Zazaboi
The Economic Development committee’s objective is to promote economic growth in East Oakland and to facilitate participation by East Oakland businesses and residents in the activities generated. Creating and supporting initiatives that will lead to sustained employment opportunities for residents, as well as opportunities for businesses to expand is vital to the economic growth of the East Oakland and its residents. The economic well-being of the community stabilizes the infrastructure that leads to not only economic opportunities, but it strengthens the quality of life of residents.
The Economic Development Committees has been focused on supporting approved projects such as Seminary Point, Foods Co Grocery Store on 66th Avenue, the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), Coliseum Complex and the Army Base Project and the surrounding projects that will generate economic growth and provide needed services. In addition, the Economic Development Committee is critical to making sure these projects will be implemented in a manner that promotes accountability to the community and the residents. The Committee also works to facilitate engagement and involvement of the city of Oakland and its role in providing and supporting job creation, infrastructure development, and expansion of transportation systems to further advance essential economic development opportunities.
