Biography
Councilmember Jane Brunner represents North Oakland, District 1. She is Chair of the Community and Economic Development (CED) Committee.
On the Council, Councilmember Brunner has provided leadership in the areas of public safety, sustainable development, job training and affordable housing. Among her many legislative accomplishments, Councilmember Brunner has introduced legislation establishing:
- Office linkage to provide affordable housing in Oakland;
- Oakland's Sustainable Community Development Initiative;
- Oakland as the second city to join the Chicago Climate Exchange;
- Oakland's Business Assistance Center.
In addition, Councilmember Brunner has led a campaign that has planted thousands of trees throughout Oakland.
Ms. Brunner is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley (BA) and University of California Hastings College of the Law (JD). She is a former public school special education teacher. Ms. Brunner is married and the mother of two children and has been a resident of Oakland for over thirty years.
