About the Budget Office
The Budget Office has three primary goals:
- To assist the Mayor, City Administrator and City Council in developing a balanced budget that meets the community’s highest priorities
- To promote and ensure the appropriate use of City resources by agencies and departments
- To provide high-quality services to the people and agencies we serve
We accomplish those three goals by:
- Providing financial and operations analysis for all City operations
- Preparing and monitoring the budgets of the City and of the Oakland Redevelopment Agency, the Five-Year Capital Improvement Program and the Five-Year Revenue and Expenditure Forecast
- Monitoring and forecasting revenues and expenditures
- Providing research on best practices
- Administering the City’s Performance Measurement and Reporting Program
- Handling a variety of technical responsibilities

Our various customers include the City Council; Mayor; City Administrator; City of Oakland employees, agencies and departments; Oakland residents and companies doing business with the City.
